Theatre Of Tragedy

Description

Exactly five years ago I was in Stavanger, Norway, for a very important occasion: on October 2nd 2010 my favourite band, Theatre of Tragedy, were going to perform their very last concert before they would split up for good. The night before they organised a beer-&-pizza-fuelled meet and greet for fans, who had come from all over the world to watch the concert. After such an amazing evening it can’t just be put into words, it was time for goodnight and the band stood together for us to take some photographs. Well, I gave it a shot and when I returned home I gave it a sepia-ish hue, put it on Facebook and tagged the guys.
Technically speaking, it’s not such an impressive photograph: I took it with my old Canon EOS 1000D with a standard EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, which is less than ideal for a dimly lit rehearsal room. It’s grainy as hell, poor Vegard and Raymond aren’t exactly on focus, the background is very random and so is the disposition of the guys… but it captured a very beautiful moment which I spent with six amazing people who are also some of the artists I admire the most, as well as with fellow dedicated fans as amazed as I was. It was a very meaningful shot to me.
Apparently, not only to me. Eventually, the gig made it to the Last Curtain Call CD/DVD, which of course required an accompaining booklet. Exactly six months later, Hein sent me an email asking for a high resolution version of the photo and how I wanted to be credited in the booklet: they wanted to use my photo for it. I was blown away from my chair and couldn’t believe it: it was April 1st and I almost thought Hein was kidding. But no, he reassured me, the photo captured a very happy, meaningful memory and they wanted for those days to be remembered like that. And there it is, my photo, slightly edited to fit the rest of the booklet: you can see it here and if you look closely at the credits page, there it is, “Bandphoto by GothicNarcissus”.
Now, despite how much I’ve improved in the past five years, this photo is still as meaningful as it was then to me, and it’s quite an achievement too: I got a photo published in a milestone release of my favourite band! I honestly don’t know why I never published it on here, but I think the fifth anniversary of that evening is quite an occasion to do it. And thank Theatre of Tragedy for their music and for the memories they gave me.

You made immortal such unique moments! That's heart photography, sometimes technique isn't that important! Great story and very happy ending :)
